Going off-line bonus post

Ok - so we snuck up the hill tonight after work and took some update pics for you... We probably loose internet tomorrow - so...

Kane loves his new shiny wall mounted bidet (ok, urinal)

And we have a crapper! Pity the septic tank's not hooked up yet!

Fully carpeted, painted and doored hallway un the upper level

Tiles around the bath

The guest bathroom shower - complete with door on the wrong side...

Kane in the second spare bedroom - now with carpet

TV room almost has a deck to step onto now!

And our beloved IKEA lights are installed in there too :-)

Appliances waiting for the kitchen to be ready - we're ready!

Some of the outside lights

Finally a balustrade to stop me falling to my horrible death - we like glass... Mmmmm glass

Notice the glass around the stairwell too... Mmmmmm more glass

And the games room - or green room if you prefer, has it's own special carpet all of its own

No pics today...

But, we were onsite for a bit today and there's quite a bit happening. Electricians are hard at work, carpet is being laid, Glass balustrades are being installed, shower tiles are going in and stuff in general is happening.

Tomorrow night is possibly our last night with internet access for a while - so updates may be few and far between in these last weeks - but we'll do what we can!

Colour me coloured!

Well, lots has happened in the last couple of days - and we like that!

The posts for the small deck are now in place, and the concrete landing for the front door. Also, the paint is getting close to done, and some of the bathroom floor tiles are down!

Pics explain better....

An update from the original photo position - nice now that the scaffolding has now gone

Gonna have to be careful backing out of THAT garage!

Kitchen has turned up! Just need the granite countertops now - I'll make sure I'm not there on the day those arrive...

TV room with "Sea Fog walls and a Forest Green feature wall

The downstairs "games room" is Forest Green

Tile and electric blue in the guest bathroom

Guest bedroom 2 is silverfox (looks a bit lighter here than in real life)

Guest bedroom 1 is a dark blue-green (but looks a bit darker here than in real life)

Yep - the main bathroom is BRIGHT orange

The master bedroom is a nice deep burgundy

and the ensuite is BRIGHT lime green - it's not easy being green...

Getting Ourselves Into Hot Water

Stuff is still happening, there's a garage full of tiles, toilets, cisterns, bathroom cabinets, tap fittings etc.  Various floors are being prepped for tiling and the painters are busy everywhere.  The supporting poles for the Eastern deck have arrived and will likely go in next week so they can get on with those.  The supporting stud/bolt thingies for the glass balustrades are going in and our new-fangled heat-pump hot-water cylinder is installed... outside.  But that's okay because it is supposed to be there :-)

Lastly, or firstly given the layout of this blog thing, a couple of friends (Simon & Andrew) did a fly-over of the site last weekend and snapped a few pics.  Not often you get to see your house from the air far better than what you can see from Google Earth.  Thanks guys!

Simon and Andrew zero in for their first (photo) bombing run...

Spot the moron on the rock

Our hot-water cylinder with its heat-pump heating unit on top.  This thing is insanely efficient and economical apparently... unless it's really cold in which case... not so much.  Hopefully it is relatively quiet given its proximity to our future bedroom!

Good view of the bedroom deck and our comms mast (basically a sturdy pole that will have any aerials or satellite dishes on it).  We made a decision not to mount any aerials etc on the house itself to discourage birds from shitting all over the damned thing because that's where our drinking water is sourced from.  I'd rather not drink poo if it is all the same to yoo...

The cathedral, aka the aquarium is looking very... white.  It also echoes like a mofo although hopefully carpet, furnishings and stuff will soak up a bit of the echo :-o

50 Shades Of Brown

Stairs, beers, and kwila...

Ha!  I made a music funny.  A funny that is probably flying over your heads at 50,000 kilometres per hour.

*sigh*

Everyone's a critic.

Anyhoo... STAIRS!  To accompany my big, throbbing deck.  And BROWN.  It's like the 1970's escaped and exploded all over the Axon paneling on the exterior of the house... it is GLORIOUS.  And  actually compliments the light gray concrete plaster, the darker gray soffits and the 'lichen' coloured roof really well.  Most of the down-pipes are now in place as well so next time it rains our tanks should begin filling properly, which is a good thing since they're running very low on water.

The interior stairs are now all in place, and are made of kwila.  Or quila, or kwela, or however the hell you spell it.  Wood.  Solid.  Dark.  Durable.

Stairs, they'll be 'connected' by wood paneling on the floor instead of carpet so will all flow together nicely.

Brown!  And gray!  And ... uh, lichen.  On the roof.  The colour that is, not the plant stuff.  Shut up.

A wet weekend

Well, it was raining a lot on the weekend - so not many pics...

The plastering has been progressing slowly inside, the exterior plaster is now grey, and the deck off the bedroom is built :-)

Getting ready for painting inside

Rain rain - go away

Grey walls and a deck!

Ohh what a big wet deck you have!

Painting begins - at last...

So, a quick update... The plastering inside is almost done now, I'd say by the end of this week it will be done. Also - painting the exterior has begun as the exterior plaster work was FINALLY finished early this week. Only problem is that the painter got the wrong colour for the Axon panelling - instead of our dark chocolate brown, he painted it an insipid light fawn colour - ewwwww! Well, that's being fixed (not at our cost!).

Also - we took to the outdoor parts on the weekend. While I mowed the lawn (weeds), Kane got into the waders and like a sexy wader wearing person, he had a go at cleaning out the weed from the pond. What fun :-)

All suited up with somewhere to go

Oooo! It's cold!

And mushy!

I was soooo waiting for that to let go and Kane to topple back...

Good to see so many workers on site - not so good to see the wrong colours!

Funny how the last deck to go into the plans is the first built...

It even has a retaining wall

The grey on the soffits loos good though

And here's the top of the door and the Axon painted the wrong colour

Slow progress again...

Well, the exterior cladding is STILL going on - it seems that it's particularly difficult to pin down these particular sub-contractors to finish! Meanwhile, all the dry-wall (Gib) is done now, and the doors are all in - interior and even the garage doors. The finishing timber is mostly applied around doors and windows, and skirting has begun now too. Next the plasterer get's his stuff done and then painting, tiling etc...

Still, we are seeing more of the colours of summer and great sunsets these days when we can get up there - so are really looking forward to finally being up there full time!

Exterior plaster being applied - the second coat

We have walls ;)

And now we have architraves and skirting too!

Sunset at this time of year really lights up the aquarium!

And we have bright orange trees too

In six or so weeks the sun will be setting even closer to the centre of our view
